We have added episode 4 of Madefire’s ‘Hybrids: The Irons’! A free download is available for your iPhone and iPad. And, if you’ve kept up with deviantArt’s news you will know to look for it there in Madefire’s dA gallery.

The establishing shot presented with its own unique challenges. It’s a busy image populated with a lot of detail; a locale marred by decay, heaving with sci-fi flavoured beings going about their business. The trick here was to avoid over-rendering and remain aware of the attention-grabbing elements. That is to say, your eye should drift calmly through the page without anything on the periphery yanking that attention back.
I spent about five hours flatting, and only about one on rendering. Quite pleased with how it turned out. Enjoyed this page very much.

Then you can always download a pirated copy here.

Yup, I’m giving you a link to illegally download my work. Shocking, eh? But, hey, you have Google, you could find it anyway if you really wanted. And if it persuades just one of you to pre-order the new book then I think it’ll be more than worth it. And, hey, maybe some of you will love it so much you’ll want to own a copy.

So, once you’ve read the first book, how can you pre-order the new book?

Well, you have until May 18th to pre-order Hero: 9 to 5 - Quietus from your local comic shop.

If you want a copy then please don’t just assume your retailer will order it in and you’ll just be able to pick it up when you see it on the shelf in July, because odds are that you probably won’t. If you want it, preorder it. Preorder it now.

To aid you in this, there’s a handy form above that you can print out and take along to your local comic shop. It includes all the details that they need to order the book for you. It’s as easy as that.

God I love dagged sleeves. Almost as much as I love slashed ones. I just want to dag and slash everything I can get my hands on.

I’ve wanted Maleficent to be the first villain in the series for a while now, ever since I made the mental leap between Maleficent’s horns and 15th century horned hennins. The time period works out pretty well, actually, since I wanted her to look a little more dated than Aurora’s 1480’s getup- both houppelandes and horned hennins were all the rage during the early- to mid-1400’s, and they make for pretty good analogues to her official costuming. Sexy stuff.

This proves more than any of the previous pieces that these are adaptations, not improvements. I mean, look at the original Maleficent design- how does one improve on PERFECTION

Here’s another tasty preview from our upcoming Hero: 9 - 5 Volume 2. Mental Lady casts her inner eye to probe the past for answers to the question that is Quietus.
Experimenting with colour feels natural in book two. After the blue page with Frosty and Blue Girl, it was only appropriate to turn to the mauves and pinks for the Mental Lady focused pages.
